Topps Pulls a Ha-Ha Two Months Late

Two months after the release of 2008 Topps Series One Baseball, Topps has finally delivered the punchline behind the first (and hopefully last) April Fools Day joke in the hobby.

Story continues below.

Since its release, many have been scratching their heads trying to figure out what to make of this card:

Seeing as how Uzuki isn't a Major Leaguer or someone who's even drafted, it was obvious something was up. I heard people speculate it was a stealth add for the Topps Make Your Own Card program or another one of Topps' trademark (and often lame) Photoshop specials.

Turns out it was a gag. Translated into English, Kazuo Uzuki means "first son of April." How cute. An April Fools Day joke pulled two months early for those who got the card right off the bat.

Topps also revealed the Uzuki card wastes only one card slot in approximately every two boxes.
