Not only do the 1994 Comic Images Bone Series 1 trading cards showcase the charming series from Jeff Smith, but the product features some of the first official sketch cards the hobby ever saw.
The set came out while Bone was still relatively young and the comics were still being published in black and white. The 90-card base set features the events though the “Great Cow Race” story arc. With color art was a precursor to the later graphic novels that would catch on through Scholastic book orders about a decade later.
Jeff Smith did 100 sketch cards for the product. And they really are rough sketches. These are some of the earliest sketch cards released in a product. The fact that they come from the creator of the comic makes them even more significant.
1994 Comic Images Bone Series 1 has three other inserts: three cover art cards, six Chromium cards and a somewhat tough Medallion card.
