2011 Upper Deck Thor trading cards feature a mix of elements for both those looking to build a set and those looking for premium elements like autographs and costume cards. It also digs into the history of the character as well as some background on the making of the film.
The base set is a simple 90 cards. It’s limited largely to material found in the film’s trailer so that it could be ready in time for Thor‘s theatrical run. As a result, it doesn’t fully tell the story and there is some repetition in the images.
Memorabilia cards are plentiful, falling at a rate of 1:12 hobby packs. Costume pieces include a shirt and cape from Thor (Chris Hemsworth), pants worn by Natalie Portman as Jane Foster and some of Anthony Hopkins’ “leathers” as Odin.
Sketch cards are inserted one in every other box (1:48). Like previous Marvel film sets, sketch cards are based on Thor comics rather than the movie. Artists were given quite a bit of freedom so it’s not uncommon to find popular characters not normally associated with Thor but may have crossed paths with him at some point.
Autographs are a case hit. The checklist isn’t big, but it’s strong. Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston are among the five signing for the set.
Movie Cel cards are included about one per box. These use acetate stock and a film strip design to make for a striking insert.
Hobby packs also come with either one Comic Covers or Concept Series insert. These sets aren’t tough to complete and might be included with some base sets.
