It might be the weakest of the original Spider-Man films, but the 2007 Rittenhouse Spider-Man 3 are easily the strongest of the trilogy’s sets. After a couple of simple sets from Topps and Upper Deck, Rittenhouse was able to add premium elements to this product, most notably autographs. And that’s one of the few bright sides that comes from a bloated list of characters.
The 2007 Rittenhouse Spider-Man 3 base set is done a little differently than most. It has 79 cards and is divided up into three sections, each with their own numbering sequences. A total of 70 Movie Plot cards piece together the film’s story. There are also 18 Behind-the-Scenes cards and a single checklist.
2007 Rittenhouse Spider-Man 3 Autographs
Each 2007 Rittenhouse Spider-Man 3 box has a pair of signed cards. While there are some weak ones (here’s looking at you Garbage Man), overall it’s quite strong. Highlighting the list is Spider-Man himself, Tobey Maguire. He’s joined by James Franco, Elizabeth Banks and Willem Dafoe, three high-profile actors who have yet to sign for any other sets. It’s not a bad thing when Stan Lee, Lucy Lawless and Bruce Campbell are among the set’s second tier.
The checklist also includes the first autograph of Oscar winner J.K. Simmons. Not only does the J. Jonah Jameson star have a regular autograph in packs but he’s featured on a couple of costume cards (a shirt and a tie) that came as case toppers. An autographed costume card was given to those ordering two cases from Rittenhouse.
Additional Inserts
Basic inserts focus on the main characters. Sandman, Spider-Man Black, Spider-Man Black/Red and Venom all focus on promo-style art versus grabs from the film.
A limited number of sketch cards were also included in 2007 Rittenhouse Spider-Man 3, but only as three-case incentives. Just six artists contributed but all are high quality. They include Jim Kyle, Cat Staggs and Sarah Wilkinson.
