1999 Inkworks Sleepy Hollow Autographs Gallery and Guide

By all accounts, Sleepy Hollow might not be the first choice for a set of trading cards. But when you get autograph commitments from Johnny Depp and Tim Burton, all of a sudden it looks a lot more enticing. But a commitment to sign and an actual signed card are two very different things. As a result, the 1999 Inkworks Sleepy Hollow Autographs are more a “what could have been” rather than what they ended up being.

The set has just four cards. Depp and Burton were both originally slated to be in the set. Redemptions were included in the product. But the two biggest names attached to the movie never signed their cards. So what’s left is a promising star that never came to be, the principal from an ’80s classic, a composer and an actress who hasn’t been seen much since she broke up with her director fiancee.

Solid Signatures

When Inkworks released their set of Sleepy Hollow trading cards, Casper van Dien was the biggest name of the signers. He was supposed to be a rising star at the time but he failed to break through onto Hollywood’s A-list. It is worth noting that many of his cards also have inscriptions.

Jeffrey Jones has had many memorable roles in the past, most notably as Mr. Rooney in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. He’s not a big star but his other roles add some appeal.

Danny Elfman is one of the most prolific film composers of his generation. Today, his card is the most valuable in the set.

The autograph lineup is rounded out by Lisa Marie. She was a familiar face in a lot of Burton’s films but once the couple broke up, the actress pretty much disappeared from multiplexes.

Although Depp and Burton never signed their Sleepy Hollow cards, both do have autographs in other sets. Depp’s signature can be found in 2005 Artbox Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Burton has a signed card in 2001 NECA Nightmare Before Christmas.

Insertion rates for the 1999 Inkworks Sleepy Hollow Autographs were never released.
