The popularity of the 2008 Inkworks Twilight trading cards were a shock to many. But maybe it shouldn’t have been. The product was a hobby rarity that crossed over into the mainstream, capturing the interest of a ton of traditional non-collectors. In particular, it was the teenage girls with crushes on Edward and others in the film’s cast that drove things to unheard of levels.
2008 Inkworks Twilight Checklist Details
The base set has 72 cards, recapping the movie, its characters and its themes. As an example of how crazy things got for this set at one point, single cards of the main characters were selling for several dollars. It was like what you’d expect with hot rookie cards in a sports card set. Needless to say, the 2008 Inkworks Twilight base sets trade for much more than most modern entertainment sets.
2008 Inkworks Twilight doesn’t have any autographs but it does have Pieceworks costume cards. These have swatches from screen-worn costumes embedded in them. Each character only appears once on the 12-card checklist. This has likely helped key cards of Bella and Edward to hold strong values over the long-term.
2008 Inkworks Twilight has three additional insert sets: Always (nine cards, 1:11 packs), Different (six cards, 1:17 packs) and In Pursuit (three cards, 1:23 packs).
Inkworks went out of business not long after the set released. In an odd turn of events, which also signaled the set’s huge appeal, it was actually reprinted by NECA after they picked up the franchise license. The base set and basic inserts were all re-released, this time without the Inkworks copyright on the back. In the UK, Topps made their own set with the same assets. These reprints are not nearly as valuable as the original cards.
