By no means is it an expensive set, but 2003 Inkworks Scooby-Doo Mysteries and Monsters does have the franchise’s first sketch cards. It’s also the only set to have autographs from the animated show. Outside of these, though, this is a set aimed largely at young collectors. As it should be.
I don’t know how many of you grew up singing along with Scooby-Doo and his pals, but I know many a morning were spent over a bowl of Fruit Loops and a corny adventure with ole’ Scoob. And while the live-action movie was fun, it was more or less just an in joke for old-time enthusiasts. But the cartoon, that’s where the real fun is. And that’s where 2003 Inkworks Scooby-Doo: Mysteries and Monsters venture.
The set has 72 base cards. Several subsets include Monsters, Episode Summaries and Behind the Scenes.
Autographs (1:62 packs) and sketch cards (1:85) aren’t guaranteed in any given box, although they should average out to every other hobby box combined.
Casey Kasem (Shaggy), Frank Walker (Fred and Scooby-Doo), Heather North (Daphne), Nicole David (Velma) and Tim Conway are among the set’s signers.
The nine sketch card artists include Tone Rodriguez, Bill O’Neill and Chynna Clugston-Major. Each of these has original artwork drawn directly on the card.
Every pack comes with one of nine different stickers. 2003 Inkworks Scooby-Doo: Mysteries and Monsters also has six Sparkly cards that land 1:7 packs.
It’s worth noting that 2003 Inkworks Scooby-Doo: Mysteries and Monsters has both hobby and retail boxes. Hobby is the only place you’re going to have a chance at any of the sketch cards and autographs.
