While 2008 Topps Heroes Volume 2 trading cards keep the same general format as the first release from earlier that year, it fell victim to the fact that the show fizzled out so fast. However, that’s no fault to the hits-centered checklist that includes Autographs, Sketch Cards and Costume Cards. Each box has at least one of the premium inserts.
The 90-card base set covers the show-killing second season, which was hurt by the writer’s strike that shortened a lot of shows. With just 11 episodes to cover, there’s a good amount of depth. A total of 20 characters have bio cards as well.
Autographs (1:72 packs) aren’t quite as strong as the first set. There’s a larger focus on secondary characters. This is all right for filling in some gaps, but the majority of the signers don’t have quite the same pop. Ali Larter (Niki Sanders) leads the new signers. 2008 Topps Heroes Volume 2 has a couple of repeat signers, most notably Milo Ventimiglia (Peter Petrelli). Noticeably absent are Hayden Panettiere and Kristen Bell.
Beyond basic Autographs, there are five Dual Autographs and four Autographed Costume Cards. These are all extremely rare.
All autographs are on stickers rather than the card itself.
Costume Cards come with wardrobe swatches used in the show. Basic versions are inserted 1:72 packs while Dual Costume Cards land 1:1,880 packs.
Rounding out the major inserts are Sketch Cards, which have original artwork drawn directly on the card. The styles are varied, as are the levels of detail.
2008 Topps Heroes Volume 2 has just one other insert set, ten Foil Cards. These add some continuity from the first set, which has a similar set of inserts.
