2007 Inkworks Smallville Season 5 trading cards continue to delve deeper into the show’s mythology. The set came at a time when more and more familiar Superman elements and characters were being added to the show’s roster. And while the lore grows, the product itself looks an awful lot like the ones that came before it. Autographs and costume cards once again highlight the set’s chase.
2007 Inkworks Smallville Season 5 has a 90-card base set. As in the past, about half of it is dedicated to to the shows themselves, with most getting at least two cards to summarize what happened. Several small subsets look things like relationships, backstory and more.
Autographs and Pieceworks both land one per box.
The list of signers is decent. Headlining the checklist is James Marsters who is best known as Spike in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. 2007 Inkworks Smallville Season 5 also has the first certified autograph from Tom Wopat, who is instantly recognizable as Luke from The Dukes of Hazzard. The card is a nice compliment to the John Schneider autograph found in the Season 1 set.
The Pieceworks lineup covers 12 cards, ten of which are found in packs. All ten of these are of different characters and have swatches of show-worn clothing embedded in them. The final two were given to dealers as an incentive for ordering multiple cases. They form a small puzzle of the one-time Duke boys, Wopat and Schneider.
The other inserts take a similar approach to previous sets of Smallville trading cards. Triangles is the nine-card foil puzzle and The Price of Life is a six-card insert. There are also three box loaders and a case loader.
