2008 Inkworks Smallville Season 6 marks the final release the card maker would do for the long-running TV series. Much about it is similar to previous releases. This includes the fact that lead star, Tom Welling, didn’t sign for the set.
The first half of the 90-card base set is dedicated to several subsets including character profiles and the introduction of several Justice League members. The second half of the set is where the episode recaps come in.
Autographs are once again inserted one per box with nine signers available in packs. They include Aaron Ashmore as Jimmy Olsen and Justin Hartley as Green Arrow. Another notable signer is Beverly Hills 90210 alum, Tori Spelling.
In addition to the pack-inserted cards, 2008 Inkworks Smallville Season 6 has a pair of Dual Autographs. Both were only available to dealers as case incentives.
Pieceworks costume cards also return. All 11 cards in the set feature different characters. Among them is Lynda Carter, best known for playing Wonder Woman in the 1970s TV series.
Other inserts fall in with the pattern established by virtually every other Inkworks set of the era. Justice is the standard nine-card foil puzzle. The Powers That Be break down six of Clark’s gifts. Finally, there’s Archer’s Quest, a three-card insert set that replaces the traditional box loader cards. They’re essentially the same, just in packs instead of floating loosely in the box.
After Inkworks went under, the Smallville trading card license remained dormant for a few years. Cryptozoic would eventually pick it up to produce a single set covering the remaining four seasons.
