2008 Inkworks Supernatural Connections trading cards marked a big change for the line. First off, it was the first full release not to be based on any given season. But what most are going to notice are the autographs. The product saw Inkworks go from being strictly on-card signatures to sticker autographs.
Focusing on relationships, the 72-card base set looks at how various characters fit in with each other. Base cards have something of a more premium feel to them. All are done in foil.
2008 Inkworks Supernatural Connections Autographs
Autographs are inserted one per box. Actually, autograph redemptions are, which severely hurts boxes now as the redemptions are no longer valid. Jensen Ackles is the top signer. He’s featured both by himself and on a dual autograph card with Fredric Lehne. Linda Blair of Exorcist fame is also included on the checklist.
Prices on these signed cards haven’t fared very well compared to many of Inkworks’ other Supernatural autographs and those done more recently by Cryptozoic. Not only do these cards use stickers, but they’re some of the worst as far as aesthetics go. The bright foil any busy background does not do the cards any favors.
Additional Inserts
Pieceworks costume cards are also included one per box. The only redemption for these is a variant version. There are also two cards that form a puzzle that were given out as case incentives.
Basic inserts in 2008 Inkworks Supernatural Connections follow a similar format and structure to most of the card maker’s other sets. Fear No Evil is the foil puzzle. Road to Ruin is the six-card insert set and Becoming is the de facto box loaders, although Inkworks had shifted them into packs at this point rather than floating in boxes.
