Rookie Signatures Highlight 2003 Bowman's Best

When the Bowman's Best line was introduced in 1994, it quickly became the Cadillac brand for rookie cards. The follow-up in 1995 is still today one of the hottest sets on the market, thanks in large part to rookies and refractors of Vladimir Guerrero, Andruw Jones, Scott Rolen and a host of other stars. But when Bowman Chrome debuted in 1997, Bowman's Best got lost in the shuffle.

That was until last year when Topps reinvented the brand, combining the rookie with the ultimate of chase cards. Each pack had either a game-used or autographed rookie card as a part of the base set. With relic cards quickly falling out of favor in the hobby, 2003 Bowman's Best is clearly about autographs. Collectors will find the signature of at least one rookie in every pack. Some will find double or triple autographed cards as well. A total of 65 players are laying the ink down for the set, which is scheduled for release sometime in mid-September.

Fifteen game-used cards will also be included one per box as a box topper bonus. Topps has also announced that Pirates pitching prospect has autographed a handful of boxes. Yes, boxes. I leave the excitement to everyone else on this gimmick.

Each pack will have five cards and carry a suggested price of $15.
