Overview: 2004 Topps Total Baseball
During
its first two years, the Topps Total line used the gimmick of being
one mother of a set builder's dream. The 990-card base sets enabled
most every player to put on a uniform to get a card, a far cry from
the small base sets in many of the chase-driven releases today. The
2004 installment of Topps Total maintains the big set appeal, although
the number of cards has been reduced to just 880 cards, 95
of which are rookies. But a game element has been added to the card
backs to appeal to those who search for purpose in collecting pieces
of cardboard.
