Going for Three

Back in the days before I was born, collectors would work on their sets through numerous series of cards. In the mid-70s the concept gave way to one bigger set and a post-season "traded" set. The copcept has been played with over the years but the results have been largely the same. With a hugely revamped hobby promised for 2006, Topps is changing plans for their annual "Traded" set and opting instead for a Series 3 of the base Topps brand.

The set, which will release in early November, will look a lot like what the now scrapped Traded set might have looked like. It's numbered T1 through T330 and will include late-season trades, post-season highlights and oodles of rookies and draft picks.

In the inserts department, the Barry Bonds Homerun History Set continues as Series 3 offers career Homeruns 331-660. Series 3 will also feature a bunch of exclusive relic cards from this year's All Star Game.

And from the company that brought you the historic Presidential Cut Signatures Collection, Topps Baseball Series 3 will unveil one of the most fascinating signature programs ever created-The Declaration of Independence Cut Signatures. This autograph program will feature 1 of 1 cut signatures from 50 signers of the Declaration of Independence.
