Elway
Gets His First Baseball Card

When
you think of two-sport superstars, the names likely to come to mind
are Bo Jackson and Deion Sanders. But John Elway? Sure he's one of the
NFL's all-time greats, but he was also drafted by the New York Yankees
back in 1981. In his first season of pro-ball, Elway wasn't too bad
either, hitting .318 and had a team-high 25 RBIs in 42 games. However,
as history has played out, Elway neer did much else on the diamond.
Revisiting
history, Topps is including a card of Elway playing baseball in 2005
Topps Fan Favorites. He will also be signing cards for the set.
In all,
more than 120 signatures can be found including:
Barry Bonds
Yankees GM Brian Cashman
Cardinals GM Walt Jockety
Giants GM Brian Sabean
Broadcaster Jon Miller
MLB Exec. Marvin Miller
Ernie Banks
Johnny
Bench
Yogi Berra
George Brett
Reggie Jackson
Stan Musial
Cal Ripken
Mike Schmidt
Tom Seaver
Nolan Ryan
Frank Robinson
Wade Boggs
Brooks Robinson
Steve Carlton
Gary Carter
Don Mattingly
Duke Snider
Denny McLain
Edgar Martinez
Two autograph
cards will be inserted in every box. Each box will also contain one
game used card. Topps is adding an innovation to the concept by adding
game-used memorabilia pieces to original cards. This will be done by
embedding the jersey or bat piece between two buy-back cards.
2005 Topps
Fan Favorites is scheduled for release the first week of June.
