Upper Deck and ESPN Join Forces to Tackle the Gridiron

Hot on the heels of their agreement to combine brands and forces, Upper Deck has begun to sprinkle some of the details on their upcoming 2005 ESPN Football set, which is set for release in mid-September.

Story continues below.

Headlining the release are cards that feature special "Sports Classic Signatures" and "ESPN Ink," which are autographed insert cards from current stars, rookies, NFL Hall of Famers and ESPN on-air personalities, as well as "SportsCenter Swatches"jersey cards.

The 2005 ESPN Football set includes 90 regular player cards featuring the league’s top-tiered players and up-and-coming rookies. Limited edition ESPN-themed inserts (each one numbered to 25) include: Plays of the Week; ESPN The Magazine covers; This Day in Football History; and ESPY Award Winners. Biographical information and statistical details can be found on the back of each trading card.

On average, collectors can expect to pull one memorabilia jersey card per box. The autographed cards are rare by comparison, as they are inserted at 1:960 packs. Unforgettable names like Hall-of-Famers Art Donovan, Charley Taylor, Dave Casper, Herb Adderley, L.C. Greenwood, Ottis Anderson, Ozzie Newsome and Raymond Berry, along with current stars like Peyton Manning and Marc Bulger make up the gridiron contingent. On-air personalities like Chris Berman, Kenny Mayne and Stuart Scott highlight the ESPN lineup. Limited edition parallels of each insert are also included, numbered from 25 to 199. Each retail box of trading cards includes 24 packs, 10 cards per pack.

Additionally, each pack contains a card with information for fans to enter to win a chance to attend the 2006 ESPY’s through the "Enter The ESPN Football IQ Challenge"contest. Sports fans and collectors can log onto www.upperdeck.com/IQ and answer 25 questions correctly for the opportunity of a life-time to attend the biggest sports award show on the planet. Answers to all of the questions can be found inside packs of Upper Deck’s ESPN Football.

Packs will carry a suggest retail price of $2.99.
