Overview: Star Trek: The Original Series 40th Anniversary

Happy birthday Star Trek. Without you Leonard Nimoy would be another character actor, there'd be fewer sci-fi conventions and even fewer nerd jokes. Rittenhouse Archives is using the occasion to release Star Trek: The Original Series 40th Anniversary, which will include a bundle of choice autographs as well as a handful of cut autograph cards from late show creator Gene Roddenberry.

Culled from personally signed checks bearing Roddenberry’s signature, only 25 of the Roddenberry “Archive Cuts” will be produced, making them the rarest of all officially licensed Star Trek cards ever produced.

There will also be signature cards from more than two dozen actors who appeared on the original Star Trek, including Leonard Nimoy (Spock), George Takei (Sulu), Robert Walker (Charlie X), Kathy Hays (Gem), France Nuyen (Elaan of Troyius), David Soul (Makora), Joan Collins (Edith Keeler), Majel Barrett (Number One), Bobby Clark (The Gorn), Mary Rice (Young T’Pring) and many others. There will be 2 autograph cards inserted in every box of Star Trek: The Original Series 40th Anniversary Trading Cards.

The base set is consists of 110 cards. All images will be taken from the show's first season. Inserts include:

  • 18 “The Quotable Star Trek: Original Series” expansion cards
  • 9 “Captain Pike” cards, featuring Jeffrey Hunter in the original pilot episode
  • 6 “Faces of Vina” cards, depicting Susan Oliver in the original pilot episode
  • 18 “Star Trek Portrait” cards, with b&w matte photography of Kirk, Spock et al
  • 18 “1967 Expansion” cards, building on the original Leaf card set from 1967
  • 7 “Delta Shield” cards, with official uniform patches embedded in the cards
