After running with the Heritage theme for several years, 2009 Topps WWE takes a different approach. It looks and feels more like a flagship Topps baseball or football release.
In fact, 2009 Topps WWE base set sticks to the same design used in 2009 Topps Baseball. It has 90 cards. Parallels are Gold (/500), Black (/40) and Platinum (1/1).
Many of the inserts stick with the same theme of sticking with what came in baseball. The one-per-pack Legends of the Ring cards are almost identical to the Legends of the Game inserts from baseball.
Sketch cards are done by actual WWE Superstars and Divas. But the chances of finding one are on the side of not likely to happen.
The more likely hits in boxes are autographs and Ringside Relics. All autographs use stickers. Hobby and retail packs have different mixes as far as signers go. The overall checklist has 14 cards with current stars and retired greats. John Cena leads the list.
In additional to basic autographs, 2009 Topps WWE has Legacy Dual Autographs. Inserted 1:55 hobby packs, they’re not terribly difficult to pull. All four of the cards in the set trace familial backgrounds. Pairs include Randy Orton and “Cowboy” Bob Orton, Cody Rhodes with his father, Dusty Rhodes, and Ted DiBiase with Ted DiBiase Jr.
