1994 Pacific Saved by the Bell: The College Years trading cards make the best of an otherwise forgettable sequel series. It has a majority of the original show’s beloved characters plus a couple of new ones. And while the base set doesn’t offer much depth, the lone insert set is a memorable one.
The base set is a simple one featuring 110 cards. They’re a mix of shots from the show as well as some posed promotional shots. Like a lot of things Saved by the Bell, there’s plenty of cheese and over-the-top animated poses. And Screech sitting in a trunk just because. For fans of the show, no matter the version, they probably wouldn’t want it any other way.
Backs offer up brief bits of dialogue or “Fast Fact” trivia. There’s not much context beyond the characters on the front.
Ten Prism inserts combine to land 1:18 1994 Pacific Saved by the Bell: The College Years packs. These put give characters a shiny look. A few years later, the circular background patterns would be used again for iconic Precious Metal Gems parallels on the sports side of the hobby.
Rounding out the checklist are five promo cards. These came together in a cello pack and have “PROTOTYPE” printed across the back.
1994 Pacific Saved by the Bell: The College Years packs included a mail-away offer for a factory set.
In 1992, Pacific also did a set for the original Saved by the Bell that is significantly tougher and more valuable than the College Years release.
