1991 Fleer Baseball Pro-Visions are some of the coolest art-based inserts to grace the hobby. Mixing realism with fantasy, the cards capture players’ strengths or something they’re known for. There’s definitely a superhero-quality about them. Terry Smith is the artist for the set.

Twelve black-bordered 1991 Fleer Baseball Pro-Visions cards were randomly inserted in packs. Although odds were never released, we’re talking 1991 Fleer Baseball here. Supply is plentiful. As a result, they’re not worth much today. You should be able to snag any of them for no more than a few dollars.

A little tougher to find (the term is relative compared to modern standards for rarity), are four additional cards available only in factory sets. These are easily discernible by their white borders. They also have different numbering on the back.

While most of the 1991 Fleer Baseball Pro-Visions are goofy, take a look at Barry Bonds. Although it meant something entirely different back in 1991 (either his bat was poison to opposing teams or the artist was planting an easter egg tribute to Bell Biv DeVoe’s classic), it’s eery in how it predicts Bonds’ downfall.
