The early 1980s saw more than just Topps looking to TV and movies for trading card inspiration. 1982 Donruss Tron trading cards are one of many licenses the card maker took on at the time. And if you thought the visuals looked cool but primitive on the screen, wait until you see how stills come across on cardboard.
1982 Donruss Tron Checklist Details
The 66-card base set uses images from the film. That means some with characters and others that are done strictly with the Tron‘s groundbreaking effects. The black borders fit with the movie’s dark look. It also creates some contrast and pop for the bright lines on the various outfits.
Many of Donruss’ entertainment releases from the early 1980s are minimal in the way of text. This set is no different. Fronts have the occasional caption, but very little. Backs are merely puzzle pieces.
Taking a page from Topps entertainment sets at the time, every nine-card pack of 1982 Donruss Tron trading cards includes a sticker. Eight cards make up the insert set. Sticker backs are blank.
