2002 Inkworks Men in Black II Checklist, Trading Cards Info

If you compare the 2002 Inkworks Men in Black II trading cards with those from the original film in 1997, you can see how the hobby was changing rapidly at the time. This time around, autographs and costume cards get a major focus.

One thing that didn’t change much was the base set. It uses 81 cards to recap the basic plot, highlight characters and showcase some of the general weirdness that helped make the sequel another blockbuster.

While the first set had just one autograph, 2002 Inkworks Men in Black II has six. Will Smith isn’t among them but Tommy Lee Jones is. He, along with Lara Flynn Boyle and director Barry Sonnefeld, was a rare redemption.

Boyle’s autograph isn’t like the others. For whatever reason, she did not sign the cards originally intended for here. After some time, she finally did sign cards. However, they were a variety of base cards. Some were signed on the front, others on the back. Inkworks added a special embossed mark to the cards to help prove their authenticity. Each card was also issued with a separate certificate of authenticity.

Inkworks also gave collectors the option of exchanging their Boyle autograph for one of Sonnefeld’s.

Pieceworks costume cards are a box hit. The set has three different, two of which come from one of Agent Kay’s (Jones) postal uniform.

Autographs and costume cards are both exclusive to hobby packs.

They’re not the only exclusives. Retail packs are the only place to find three Special Foil cards.
