To help promote the first season of Eastbound and Down, HBO produced a set of Kenny Powers baseball cards. Chronicling Powers’ fictional rise and fall at the major league level, the 2009 HBO Eastbound and Down set has five cards.

Card fronts might look familiar to longtime collectors. That’s because they’re based largely on Topps and Bowman baseball designs from around the same time. The 2002 Kenny Powers “rookie card” even carries a very similar “RC” logo used at the time.

Kenny Powers cards are cool in their own right. But if you read the card backs, you’ll see that they document the promise Powers had at the start of his career followed by the fast downward spiral. The cards themselves carry a lot of gags.

The 2009 HBO Eastbound and Down Kenny Powers cards come packaged in a silver foil wrapper as a full five card set.

The cards have become popular on the secondary market. While not incredibly rare, they’re not overly common. Singles can sell for $5 and up. A PSA 10 of the 2003 card sold for $250 on eBay in September, 2014.
