2006 Topps WWE Insider wrestling cards were intended to dig a little deeper into wrestling’s biggest stars. It actually started out as a UK release before being tweaked to become a North American hobby set.
The 2006 Topps WWE Insider base set has 72 cards, which is a little smaller than most sets of WWE trading cards. All except the checklist feature a single star. Fronts have a futuristic kind of design that offer something you might expect in a TV intro. Write-ups on the back often go into the person’s past and wrestling origins. This is a focused take that’s a little bit different than most other sets that center on the present.
Every 2006 Topps WWE Insider hobby box has one autograph card. The checklist is big, with 22 signers. Highlights include John Cena, Edge, Trish Stratus and Randy Orton. All autographs in the set are signed on foil stickers.
Every hobby box also has one of five different Memorabilia Cards. All five subjects are notable with Cena, Kurt Angle and Shawn Michaels being the biggest names.
Retail packs don’t have any hits but they do feature three exclusive inserts of their own. Champions Foil and Divas Foil both take a similar approach. Every retail pack also comes with a Coin that isn’t in hobby packs.
None of the retail inserts are particularly rare in packs. However, supply has all but dried up and the foil cards and Coins are extremely tough to find on the secondary market today.
