1983 O-Pee-Chee Star Wars: Return of the Jedi trading cards complete the original trilogy north of the border. It’s a simple set, even more so than the already pretty standard Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back releases that came before it.
1983 O-Pee-Chee Star Wars: Return of the Jedi Checklist Details
Ewoks, a Godfather-inspired giant slug, lightsaber duels and spaceships galore are all part of the 1983 O-Pee-Chee Star Wars: Return of the Jedi checklist.
Like other sets of O-Pee-Chee Star Wars cards, this one is largely the same as its American counterpart from Topps. In fact, this is the same general base set as Topps Return of the Jedi Series 1.
Cards aren’t exactly the same, though. On the front, captions are in both English and French. It’s the same on the back with both official Canadian languages represented. Other ways to tell O-Pee-Chee from Topps is the “Prtd. in Canada” note in the fine print on the back as well as the brighter card stock on the back.
O-Pee-Chee is notorious for creating condition-sensitive products. Return of the Jedi is no different. Poorly centered cards are common as are cards with at least one rough edge due to dull cutting blades. The bright red borders don’t do any favors as well, drawing attention to any sort of nick or imperfection.
Unlike Topps, 1983 O-Pee-Chee Return of the Jedi doesn’t have any stickers. Also, the Canadian company cut things short with just one release versus Topps’ two. O-Pee-Chee did multiple series for Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back.
Packs come with ten cards with four different wrappers available: Luke Skywalker, Jabba the Hutt, Wicket the Ewok and Darth Vader. Wax boxes have 36 packs.
