2006 Breygent Wizard of Oz isn’t the first set of trading cards for the iconic movie. However, it is the first to offer a modern chase aspect with its inclusion of autographs, costume and prop cards. The result is something that offers a broad overlook of the film and something that features some truly museum-quality pieces.
2006 Breygent Wizard of Oz Checklist Details
The base set is a simple but effective synopsis. Done on glossy stock, fronts are simply full-bleed stills taken from the movie. Backs not only recap the story, but offer tidbits and trivia on production, giving the set a more historical feel.
Printing Plates are the lone parallels.
Autographs come in a few forms, some more scarce than the others. The headliners are three different Cut Signatures, two from Judy Garland that are numbered to 10 and a Jack Haley that has 130 copies. The Garland cards are oversized.
Munchkin Autographs (1:140 packs) feature four cards from three different actors: Mickey Carroll, Karl Slover and Jerry Maren. Maren is featured on additional Autographed Sketch Cards that have art done by Chris Henderson.
Prop Cards include tiny pieces of the Yellow Brick Road, the Cowardly Lion’s fur and Scarecrow straw. A pair of Costume Cards offer up a piece of Dorothy’s dress (#’ed/8) and the Wicked Witch’s hat (#’ed/16).
Sketch Cards (1:40 packs) are the most common chase cards.
Other inserts on the 2006 Breygent Wizard of Oz checklist include a six-card tribute to Toto, six Wicked Words, a nine-card foil Wiz Quiz puzzle and a pair of scarce Before and After cards.
2006 Breygent Wizard of Oz has a production run of 5,000 hobby boxes. They also produced 2,000 wood boxes.
The company followed this set up with a Series 2 in 2007.
