It took more than 25 years, but The Matrix finally got a set of trading cards. It’s not the biggest release and its distribution wasn’t exactly traditional. 2024 SkyBox Matrix trading cards were exclusive to Upper Deck’s e-Pack platform, releasing over the course of ten weeks. Each pack came with one of the week’s four base cards, one of each week’s two Black and White Variants plus one additional insert.
2024 SkyBox Matrix Checklist Overview
The movie is recapped over the course of 40 cards. With the rollout release schedule, patience was the key in building it. It’s a similar set up to Upper Deck’s Goonies set, another e-Pack exclusive. Printing Plates are the lone base parallels.
Twenty Black and White Variants remove the color from the punk noir film. Seeing as how there are only half as many in this part of the set, numbers don’t line up. These are also more plentiful as base cards as packs yield one, just like base cards, but there were just two to chase each week versus four from the main set.
Ten Characters cards are each limited to 1,499 copies. That said, they’re not individually numbered. Gold parallels have 499 copies. Additional Blue and Red parallels are also available. These split the checklist in half with each having a different five cards. Blue and Red Character cards aren’t in packs, though. Rather, they’re Achievements given out as rewards.
Code FX are some of the rarest cards available in the digital packs. Base versions are numbered to just 100 copies each. Blue (#’ed/50), Green (#’ed/10), Printing Plates (1/1) and Gold (1/1) parallels can also be found.
Some of the top inserts aren’t in packs. Glitch and Precious Metal Gems Magenta are both Achievements given to collectors for finishing various parts of the set.
