1957-58 Kahn’s Basketball is the first of nine hoops sets from the hot dog maker. The small set is an elusive one and one that is extremely tough to find in top condition due to its method of distribution.
The 1957-58 Kahn’s Basketball checklist has just 11 cards. All feature players from the Cincinnati Royals. The set coincides with the team’s first season in Ohio after relocating from Rochester. Kahn’s was also located in Cincinnati.
Cards use black and white photos and are oversized, measuring approximately 3 3/16″ by 3 15/16″. Rather than highlight player stats and bios, backs offer tips on how to play basketball.
Packaged with hot dog wieners, stained cards are the norm. Occasionally clean copies surface. These are believed to be sales samples.
Kahn’s did basketball card sets for nine seasons through 1965-66.
