A movie doesn’t have to be great to make for an interesting set of trading cards. Such is the case with 1995 Fleer Ultra Batman Forever, a set that takes advantage of a massive cast and a colorful, over-the-top look. It helps that holograms are one of the central insert sets and appear in every pack.
1995 Fleer Ultra Batman Forever Checklist Details
The base set uses 120 cards to both recap the story and highlight its characters. Falling under the Fleer Ultra banner, that means a more upscale approach as well with glossy stock and foil highlights.
Leading off the inserts are the one-per-pack Holograms. With 36 in the set, it’s bigger than a lot of insert sets. Still, because they land so frequently, putting it together isn’t too touch. All are character-based, using a variety of promotional shots.
Animaction is a ten-card chase set that uses chromium stock as its defining feature. There’s one in every four packs, meaning there should be almost a set in every hobby box.
The only other inserts available in packs are a pair of Acclaim Video Game Tips. Using screen grabs from the game itself, these stand out but not necessarily in a good way.
Fleer Ultra Batman Forever vs. Fleer Batman Forever
1995 Fleer Ultra Batman Forever is essentially the hobby version of the set. The card maker also produced a nearly identical set under just the Fleer name for retail. There are a couple of major differences between the releases, though.
Retail Fleer base cards lack the foil highlights that Ultra has. They also say just “Fleer” on the front, making for a clear label.
As far as checklists go, Fleer only has the 120-card base set and no inserts. That makes all chase elements exclusive to Fleer Ultra.
