Sequels don’t have to suck. 2013 Cryptozoic Big Bang Theory Seasons 3 and 4 builds off of a stellar first release and manages to improve upon it. It might not have the benefit of being “first,” particularly with autographs, but the approach and depth are both better from a collecting standpoint.
2013 Cryptozoic Big Bang Theory Seasons 3 and 4 Checklist Details
The 68-card checklist is a collection of highlights from the two seasons that originally aired between 2009 and 2011. Although there is some natural continuity between cards, it’s not a full recap. Rather, it’s a collection of moments that are more likely to be remembered for their broad strokes.
From a design perspective, fronts opt for a vertical layout. The result crops out a lot of the original image. At the same time, it makes it more character-driven. Quotes double as captions.
Backs have a second related image with a more detailed write-up.
Autographs, Memorabilia Cards and Other Inserts
Autographs, which are one per hobby box, are the big chase in the set. This is where 2013 Cryptozoic Big Bang Theory shines. The Seasons 1 and 2 release covered the main actors. They’re all here, too, but in an elevated format. All seven leads, including the additions of Mayim Bialik and Melissa Rauch, have autographed memorabilia cards. They’re all extremely rare and prices reflect that.
The rest of the checklist has several notable recurring stars and guests like Wil Wheaton and Danica McKellar, perhaps best known for playing Winnie Cooper on The Wonder Years. Other signers include LeVar Burton, Laurie Metcalf and former NBA star Rick Fox.
Hobby boxes also have a Wardrobe Card with a piece from one of the show’s costumes. The list is a big one with 29 single-swatch and seven different Dual Wardrobe cards available in packs. The set’s binder has an exclusive card with Leonard’s yellow shirt that isn’t available elsewhere.
A total of 50 redemption cards were included in packs, each good for a memorabilia book card. The first 25 feature pieces worn by the show’s leading ladies. The second half has the guys.
2013 Cryptozoic Big Bang Theory Seasons 3 and 4 has two additional insert sets. Nine die-cut Duos cards chart the show’s various relationships. The Elevator brings some foil to the checklist. Both of these insert sets are 1:12 packs.
