Like much of the full release, the 2005 Inkworks Serenity Pieceworks cards remain extremely popular and somewhat elusive. This is despite the fact that the movie wasn’t a blockbuster and the show it was based on, Firefly, lasted only one season.
But when you have one of the most passionate fan bases out there, size doesn’t matter.
Inserted 1:36 packs of 2005 Inkworks Serenity trading cards, each Pieceworks card comes with a small swatch of a screen-worn costume embedded in it. While not quite as large and deep as the product’s autographs checklist, it still covers most of the main characters. Captain Mal (Nathan Fillion), Jayne (Adam Baldwin), Kaylee (Jewel Staite), Wash (Alan Tudyk), Zoe (Gina Torres) and Inara (Morena Baccarin) are among the lead cast members with costume pieces in the set. River (Summer Glau) is the biggest name that’s not included.
In the years since the set’s release, Serenity Pieceworks cards have become increasingly tough to find as most have been swallowed up into personal collections. And while there have been a couple of Firefly sets put out since, they don’t have any costume cards. This has helped ensure that the excitement surrounding the cards that do exist aren’t watered down. It has also meant that prices have remained strong even without new movies or a TV revival.
