Although the movie was a major box office disappointment, the 2007 Inkworks Golden Compass Pieceworks cards are impressive. And this is for a couple of reasons. Many of the pieces come from costumes worn by major names. Also, costume design was one of the film’s major strengths, making for some interesting, intricate and textured cards.
Inserted 1:24 packs, there’s a Pieceworks card in every box of 2007 Inkworks Golden Compass trading cards. The set is comprised of 11 cards featuring six different characters.
Dakota Blue Richards, who played the young lead Lyra, has three different cards. The same is true for Nicole Kidman who starred as Mrs. Coulter. James Bond actor, Daniel Craig (Lord Asriel), had two of his costume cut up for the cards.
Eva Green (Serafina) is another big star with a Golden Compass Pieceworks card.
While the set has 11 cards, two were issued via redemption. That means that some boxes have a now invalid IOU in place of the Pieceworks card.
These cards anchored the 2007 Inkworks Golden Compass release. Although Inkworks usually included autographs, they were not able to secure any for this set.
Because the film was a bust, there has never been a ton of excitement surround the cards either, no matter how nice they are. Singles aren’t overly difficult or expensive. Unopened boxes are still somewhat common as well given the set’s age.
