2000 Artbox Simpsons Film Cards aren’t your normal set of trading cards. Yes, you still build sets, look at them and sort through them as you would traditional trading cards. But the entire checklist is laid out more like a specific type of insert set.
Instead of the usual card stock, cards are a bordered cel. As a result, images have a sort of see-through nature to them.
2000 Artbox Film Cards Checklist Overview
The base set isn’t very big, consisting of just 45 cards. Building off the film cel nature of the release, it’s built on visuals. The only text other than the logos on the front and copyright info on the back is a small caption. Granted, things are fairly limited in regards to recaps and descriptions given the fact the only room is on the outer border that the cel is sandwiched in.
Artbox does go beyond just the main Simpsons clan for its subject matter. The show’s supporting cast is also on display, including several solo cards.
The only inserts are ten Foil cards. These still have the same general layout as the base cards only with an upgraded border.
Like other Artbox Film Cards releases, there’s a viewer that was available separately. When a card is put in the device, a back light brightens up the colors and makes it vivid.
Both hobby and retail boxes exist for the set. While the cards inside are the same, the number of them is very different. Hobby packs have five cards. Retail come with just two.
2000 Artbox Simpsons Film Cards aren’t the most common trading cards for the show but they’re not entirely rare. Their non-traditional nature gives them more of a niche appeal as well. The basic build of the checklist and lack of significant chase elements has kept prices in check, too.
