2006 Stellar Sports Illustrated Swimsuit trading cards up the star power. While the previous three sets all have some famous names, this release has the biggest concentration of mainstream names up to this point. And it’s not just supermodels. One of the world’s most famous tennis players is also part of the checklist.
2006 Stellar Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Checklist Details
The 100-card base set is a familiar set-up. Ninety-eight of these cards have previously unpublished photos that didn’t make their way into the annual magazine. The first 88 cards all feature Swimsuit Issue veterans including Elle Macpherson, Marisa Miller and Rebecca Romijn, who was also a star as Mystique in the original run of X-Men films.
Five first-time Swimsuit Issue models each have two cards in a Rookies subset. Brooklyn Decker is the most famous of these.
As usual, the final two cards are checklists that have the annual issue’s cover photo. In this instance it’s a large group shot.
Autographs and Other Inserts
2006 Stellar Sports Illustrated Swimsuit hobby boxes come with a pair of hits, an autograph and a memorabilia card.
There are 11 different signers including Decker. However, the quality of her signatures vary greatly. Many look as though the marker used to sign them is running extremely low, resulting in lots of streaks and lighter ink.
Nine models are on the Swimsuit Memorabilia checklist. The swatches in these come from swimwear worn during the photoshoots.
Net Gains (1:4 packs) is dedicated to the special guest of the set, Maria Sharapova, the one-time top women’s tennis player in the world and winner of five career Grand Slam titles. Sharapova is the focal point of all ten cards in this insert set. She also has an autograph and memorabilia card on the product’s checklist.
Bombshell Beach (1:4 packs) is the other insert set in 2006 Stellar Sports Illustrated Swimsuit. Each of these has anywhere from two to five different models posing together.
