2003 Upper Deck Disney Treasures Series 2 is the middle release of an impressive three-set run. Taking a anthology approach to the characters from the world of Disney Animation, the product also expands the popular Reel Piece of History line and focuses on a couple more specific areas through inserts.
2003 Upper Deck Disney Treasures Series 2 Checklist Details
Picking up from where Series 1 left off just a few months earlier, the base set has 80 cards. It’s all character based with each sorted into “Heroes” and “Villains.”
Donald Duck was the centerpiece of the release. He’s featured on all of the card fronts inside the small boxes that run up the side. This is an easy way to differentiate the base cards from Series 1 (Mickey Mouse) and Series 3 (Winnie the Pooh and friends).
Inserts
Speaking of the temperamental duck, Donald Duck Filmography breaks down his appearances in various shorts over the years. It reaches back to his early black and white cartoons and goes up to the less-frequent modern shorts. The insert set has a total of 45 cards with one included in every pack.
Both Pinocchio and The Lion King get dedicated insert sets of their own. Both offer highlights and key moments from the classics.
Reel Piece of History cards return as the main chase element. A total of 20 cards are included this time instead of Series 1’s ten. The first ten have two frames from the feature film’s print. These are one per box. The other ten have four frames and are tougher to pull at 1:96 packs.
Sketch cards from Disney animators are randomly inserted, although they’re close to impossible to find. A total of 14 artists each did 12 cards across the entire product run.
Also in the product are two cut signature cards from legendary Disney comics artist, Carl Banks.
In addition to regular boxes, 2003 Upper Deck Disney Treasures Series 2 was also packaged in smaller retail boxes. These also came with a Donald Duck figurine.
