2005 Inkworks Robots Checklist, Trading Cards Info

Ad

Who doesn’t like robots? Robby, Optimus Prime, C-3PO – the list could go on and on (as long as GoBots don’t get a passing mention). The animated Robots tried to bring the magic of machinery to kid’s movies. And while it failed to reach blockbuster status — or even be particularly memorable — it wasn’t horrible. But being “not horrible” doesn’t always translate over well to trading cards. However, 2005 Inkworks Robots trading cards might just be better than the movie they’re based on. They’re not particularly memorable thanks to the lukewarm response of the film, but they do stray from the typical Inkworks formula.

2005 Inkworks Robots Checklist Details

The 2005 Inkworks Robots base set has 90 cards. A big chunk of it is dedicated to the story but the colorful characters get plenty of attention as well.

For chase card collectors, the set is highlighted by one sketch card per hobby box. For a couple of the artists, these are reasonably priced options for getting their artwork.

Generally speaking, the sketch cards are basic compared to what’s seen in a lot of today’s sets. Most are either pencil drawings or ones done in markers. Some have color, but these are the exception.

A total of 12 artists contributed to the set, including Nar who has gone on to become one of the top names in this corner of the hobby. His cards for this set cost just a fraction of what you might pay for a Marvel sketch card. That said, the quality isn’t the same as what it has evolved into.

It’s worth noting that sketch cards are only in hobby boxes, not retail. This is actually the case with all the inserts except for Rusties to the Rescue.

Usually, this is where we’d start talking about a foil puzzle. However, Inkworks resisted here. Instead there’s a fresh mix of inserts. Postcards from the Big City (six cards, 1:17) have an image that’s printed on film embedded in them.Fender Bender (six cards, 1:11) is another hobby-exclusive. The cards use embossed foil to highlight quotes from the movie. Rusties to the Rescue are the only chase cards in hobby and retail packs. These use patterned foil.

Retail packs also have a set of four exclusive Foil cards.
