2005 Rittenhouse Planet of the Apes Behind the Scenes is a second mini set following the previous year’s Charlton Heston Collection. However, this time around, there’s some premium content to go with it including the first memorabilia cards for the original films.
2005 Rittenhouse Planet of the Apes Behind the Scenes Checklist Details
The base set has just nine cards. Rather than showcasing what’s seen on the screen, cards look on the other side of the camera. The first three cards are dedicated to Linda Harrison who plays Nova in the original film. Harrison plays a role in one of the product’s major cards as well.
Other base cards show a lot of rehearsal and planning, most of which involves actors in various states of costumes. Sights like apes wearing sunglasses or having a smoke break make for some striking cards.
The design takes largely from the original 1969 Topps Planet of the Apes set with a basic white border and ribbon for the caption on the front. Backs are once again green with ape illustrations along one side. The big difference is a second photo on the back replacing a write-up.
Every set has three premium inserts to go with the base cards. The first is a Linda Harrison autograph. She signed previous for 1999 Inkworks Planet of the Apes Archives and Topps’ 2001 release for the Tim Burton reboot. Rounding out the checklist are a pair of From the Archives Relics. These have pieces of costume material from Planet of the Apes and Conquest of the Planet of the Apes.
Just 333 sets of 2005 Rittenhouse Planet of the Apes Behind the Scenes were produced. The final base card in each set has a serial number.
