Taken on its own, 2002 Rittenhouse Farscape Season 3 trading cards stand out in their own right. Combine them with the rest of the line, and they’re a piece of a much greater puzzle. For the first time, autographs are considered a box hit. And they’re not the only ones. Sketch cards also have a strong presence in the product.
The 72-card base set continues from where Season 2 ended. Numbering carries on, starting at #145. Each episode has three cards, providing a somewhat detailed summary of the third season.
Autographs are included 1:40 packs. For Season 1, they were every other box. Season 2, things were even tougher on the signature front, averaging every 2.5 boxes. Key signers for Season 3 include Paul Goddard (Stark) and Jonathan Hardy (Rygel’s voice). Virginia Hey (Zhaan) also has a signed card connected with the set but it’s a case topper.
Also falling one per box are SketchaFEX sketch cards. Four artists each did a handful of different designs.
Costume cards, which were the lead hit in the first two seasonal sets are now the toughest of the premium inserts to pull at 1:240 packs (1:6 boxes). Just two cards are on the checklist.
The most distinct of the basic inserts is Revenging Angel Animation Cels. Based on the “Revenging Angel” episode, they’re printed on plastic. Other inserts include Quotable Farscape, Family Ties and Behind the Scenes.
