1989-90 Hoops Announcers Basketball Checklist, Card Details

1989-90 Hoops Announcers Basketball cards take things to the broadcasting booth. The rare set was never commercially released. Rather cards were made and given to regional and national broadcasters. Of course, singles have made their way to the secondary market making for a scarce chase in an era where virtually everything else is anything but.

1989-90 Hoops Announcers Basketball Checklist Details

A total of 43 broadcasters make up the 1989-90 Hoops Announcers checklist. These range from the team’s local play callers to voices that went across the country on stations like CBS, ESPN and TNT. Notable names include Marv Albert, Pat O’Brien, Chick Hearn, and Rick Barry.

It is believed that anywhere from 200 to 1,000 cards were made for each announcer. Fronts use the same design as the main 1989-90 Hoops Basketball set, the company’s first. Backs offer detailed bios.

Because these cards were never distributed officially, it was dependent on the broadcasters to hand them out. That combined with the initial rarity make this one of the scarcest sets from the boom period across all major sports.
