2018 Topps Stranger Things Season 1 is the first set of mainstream trading cards for the show. Blending some nostalgic elements with several newer ones, it’s a checklist that balances some set-building aspects while still offering a lot to chase. This includes the first official Stranger Things autograph cards.
2018 Topps Stranger Things Season 1 Checklist Details
The 2018 Topps Stranger Things Season 1 checklist is anchored by a 100-card base set. This is one of those traditional elements where it acts as a basic recap to the first series of episodes. Looking to reflect the era in which the show is set, cards are printed on stock similar to what was used on trading cards in the 1980s.
Three levels of serial-numbered parallels go with show themes rather than color like most modern sets:
- Upside Down – #’ed/99
- Waffle – #’ed/11
- Christmas Lights – 1/1
There are also printing plates. Although each of these is a one-of-one, every plate has black, yellow, magenta and cyan versions.
Autographs and Other Inserts
While the 2018 Topps Stranger Things Season 1 checklist has autographs, memorabilia cards and sketch cards, all of these are exclusive to hobby packs.
More than a dozen signer are available on the autograph checklist. Millie Bobby Brown is the headliner. Among the main autograph cards, she’s also the only person to have stickers. All others are on-card.
Other core cast signatures include David Harbour, Joe Keery, Noah Schnapp and Gaten Matarazzo. Series creators Matt and Ross Duffer also signed cards, including an extremely scarce Dual Autograph.
Five Costume Relics add a memorabilia element. In addition to a handful of numbered parallels, Harbour has an autographed costume card numbered to 10.
Although not authentic memorabilia, there are Commemorative Patch cards as well. These highlight different characters using a series of embroidered patches for different Hawkins haunts. While available in hobby packs, these are also one per blaster box where they’re packaged separately from the standard packs.
More than 150 artists contributed to the product’s sketch cards. Each of these has original artwork done directly on the card.
Other inserts on the 2018 Topps Stranger Things Season 1 checklist include Character Cards, Character Stickers, and Scene Stickers, which use a film reel layout familiar to several Topps entertainment sets from the 1970s and ’80s.
