1987 Zoot US of ALF trading cards take collectors on a state-by-state journey through the country. It’s simple, strange and fun. Compared to the more famous ALF cards from Topps, they’re also largely overlooked.
The set has 50 numbered cards — one for each of the 50 states — plus a checklist. Rather than making ALF like a gnome and plopping him into a touristy photo, cards are more like travel illustrated ads. Most come with slogans and work the wisecracking sitcom star into some sort of gag. Much like the show, there are jokes, most of which are so bad they might make you smile. Basically, it’s exactly what you’d expect from anything ALF.
Backs have an illustration of ALF doing his best Uncle Sam. State facts and trivia are inside an outline of the country.
Cards do double as stickers so they can be peeled and put on binders, lunchboxes, dressers and the backs of stop signs.
Compared to the Topps trading cards that spin directly out of the show, 1987 US of ALF isn’t as readily available. They’re not exactly rare or particularly valuable, but if you’re looking for a specific card, it might take a little hunting to find one at a good price.
1987 Zoot US of ALF boxes have 48 packs, each with five cards. That means with that with decent collation, each box has enough cards for four sets and a solid chunk of a fifth.
