1992 Impel DC Cosmic Cards Checklist, Trading Cards Info

Ad

1992 Impel DC Cosmic Cards are essentially the DC equivalent of the Marvel Universe line that helped usher the modern era of modern comic trading cards. Character-driven with a deep checklist, it covers a lot of ground. There also happens to be a lot of it out there, making it one of the more common products of the high-production period.

1992 Impel DC Cosmic Cards Checklist Overview

Consisting of 180 cards, 1992 Impel DC Cosmic Cards take a deep dive into the company’s roster of heroes and villains. Although the checklist is broken down into several sections, most still highlight the characters in a similar manner only with natural groupings. The first 30 cards delve into the history of ten of DC’s biggest names including Superman, Wonder Woman and The Flash. Each icon has three cards, one each for their Golden Age, Silver Age and Modern Age interpretations. From there, character groupings highlight the larger roster of protagonists and antagonists from Earth and beyond.

One corner of the DC Universe that isn’t in the set is Gotham City. So no Batman, his friends or his colorful gallery of rogues.

Towards the end of the base set, there are cards for major storylines and Classic Covers that showcase some of the biggest and most valuable DC Comics of all-time.

1992 Impel DC Cosmic Cards takes another page from the Marvel Universe format with its Holograms inserts. Landing 1:10 packs, each has one (or two) of DC’s biggest names.

A factory set with both the base set and all of the Holograms is also available.

While this has long been considered a 1992 set due to release date, the cards themselves have a 1991 copyright on the back.

With its massive production run, 1992 Impel DC Cosmic Cards don’t carry a lot of value today. They also came out as the hobby boom of the early 1990s was starting to slow down so it never really had a chance to catch on like the early Marvel Universe releases and hold the same level of nostalgia today.

  1. Interestingly, no Batman nor any of the closely associated characters (Robin, Joker, Catwoman, Riddler, Ra’s Al Ghul, etc.). DC must have made a separate deal for those rights.
