1965 Donruss Disneyland Puzzle Back trading cards offer a first-hand look at the theme park’s early days. The fun, the rides and the costume characters are all here. The result is one of the more notable sets of vintage Disney trading cards even if it’s not the most valuable.
1965 Donruss Disneyland Puzzle Back Checklist Details
A total of 66 cards make up the set. Each has a Disneyland photo on the front. Today, it’s a time capsule of how things used to be, about a decade after the park’s 1955 opening. Some attractions still stand today while others are now history. That’s a big part of the set’s appeal today, particularly since the Disney brand is so iconic and Disneyland is a big part of that. Throw in some period fashions and more than a few character costumes that are primitive by today’s standards, and there’s lots of nostalgia to to gleaned from these cards.
In addition to the park photo, fronts have a caption that notes the attraction and what’s going on. Essentially, the cards act as a collectible travel brochure advertising the park as it entered its second decade.
1965 Donruss Disneyland Puzzle Back cards get their name from the reverse side. All act as a puzzle piece that can be used to make a massive image of Disney characters and Sleeping Beauty’s castle.
Donruss released a very similar set of Disneyland Blue Back trading cards in 1965 as well. These have the same images on the front but the text has been moved to the back, which also has blue art with the castle. Puzzle Back cards are the more common of the two.
Values of 1965 Donruss Disneyland Puzzle Back trading cards vary greatly, depending on the condition. Off-condition cards can usually be found for under $5. This can go up significantly for top-level professionally graded cards. Even then, they’re not wildly expensive.
