1996-97 Inkworks James Bond Connoisseur’s Collection takes a deep dive into the film franchise. It does so spanning three separate series that go together to make one massive — and comprehensive — set. It might not be as expansive as Rittenhouse would get a few years later with their long run with the line and it just misses out on autographs, but up to this point, there was little like it when it came to James Bond trading cards.
1996-97 Inkworks James Bond Connoisseur’s Collection Checklist Details
Individually, each series (or volume) takes on a different theme. The first set is all about the early days of Bond on the big screen in the 1960s while Volume 2 moves ahead to the ’70s. The final installment, titled Bond Legacy, goes up to GoldenEye, the first film with Pierce Brosnan as 007.
Individual base sets each consist of 90 cards. While much of that is dedicated to individual films, there are several subsets as well that look across movies for broader themes. Volume 1 has Heroes and Villains, The Connery Portfolio and The Lazenby Files. Volume 2 shifts to Enemies and Allies, Moore Dossier, additional Connery Portfolio cards, and Gadgets. The final installment includes More on Moore, Dalton Compendium, The Brosnan Files, Friends and Foes, and Behind the Scenes. There’s also Ladies Gallery, which spans across all three sets.
James Bond Connoisseur’s Collection Inserts
It’s not just the base set that has continuity between releases. Three insert sets also build on each other in 1996-97 Inkworks James Bond Connoisseur’s Collection.
Women of Bond F/X-Etch use etched foil to further showcase Bond girls. Each series has nine cards for 27 in all. These are the easiest inserts in the product, landing 1:11 packs.
Next are Metalworks Poster cards. These use standard foil to interpret the artwork that helped sell the first 17 Bond films. At 1:24 packs, boxes have just one or two of these.
Finally, there are Goldenworks cards that use embossed gold foil. Each series highlights a different Bond actor. These are tough at 1:108 packs. Platinum parallels are even more scarce at 1:1,080 packs.
