1995 Collect-A-Card Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The New Season moves ahead to season two. Not bad for being the third full release based on the immensely popular show. Not only does it introduce new episodes and monsters, but several key new characters as well.
Like the previous Power Rangers trading cards that came before it, The New Season is complicated a little with hobby, retail and Walmart releases that are all a little different both in design and content.
1995 Collect-A-Card Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The New Season Checklist Details
The 72-card base set has the Rangers, their Angel Grove alter egos, lots of strange monsters and even some broom ball. Like anything Mighty Morphin’, the 1990s are alive and well. Things are made unnecessarily complicated with three different base set designs based on what types of packs they came in. Hobby versions take a borderless full-bleed approach. Retail cards have green borders while Walmart base cards have rainbow borders. Images and text are the same for all three versions.
All 72 cards have Power Foil parallels that are one per hobby and retail pack.
Most of the remaining inserts are exclusive to one particular pack type.
Hobby has Acetate Character cards. Landing 1:18 packs, each of these comes on clear plastic stock. Most are Power Rangers, but there’s also Lord Zedd and the MegaThunder Zord. When it comes to Power Rangers insert sets, these rank among the most valuable.
The same images are used in the Foil-Stamped Character Cards set, which are only in Walmart packs. The plastic stock is replaced by something more traditional. The set’s name comes from the gold foil stamp used for the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers logo.
Retail packs take a deeper dive into the White Ranger, one of several second season evolutions for the show, with a dedicated set. The checklist has eight in total and 1:9 pack odds.
Adam, Aisha and Rocky, three new Power Rangers, make cameo appearances as three Bonus Cards.
Finally, sealed hobby cases got a special case card the uses some early computer graphics effects to showcase Tommy and his new White Ranger status.
For whatever reason, Lord Zedd is referred to as “Lord Zed” on all the the cards that include his name.
