1991 Comic Images X-Men trading cards focuses on the comics more than the characters like Impel’s Marvel Universe sets from the same timeframe.
Not only is this set centered on the actual comics, it’s from a very particular timeframe. Drawing from 1990’s X-tinction Agenda crossover storyline and its fallout, cards have full-bleed fronts with art from the comics. This also happens to be a run drawn by the legendary Jim Lee, so it’s something of a tribute to his work. To that end, this set shouldn’t be confused with the 1992 Impel X-Men set he did original artwork for.
The black and white backs offer story details and retell key events over 90 cards.
1991 Comic Images X-Men has just one chase card, a Jim Lee autograph. Limited to 1,000 copies, it is a little different from most modern signature cards. One side has the autograph and is otherwise blank. The other has an X-Men illustration and an “Autograph Card” heading.
