Following the success of Star Wars, every Hollywood studio appeared to want to jump on the Sci-fi bandwagon. For Disney, it came in the form of The Black Hole. The company’s most expensive movie at the time, expectations were high. And the marketing tie-ins were numerous. Among them? 1979 Topps Black Hole trading cards.
It’s a standard set for the era with both cards and sticker inserts.
The 88-card base set recaps the plot and profiles the characters. While not quite as bright, the star-base border is reminiscent of Topps’ first sets of Star Wars trading cards.
1979 Topps Black Hole packs come with one sticker. Like most Topps stickers from the 1970s and ’80s, edges are die-cut. Backs form a pair of puzzles.
