In 1972, they were sent to a military prison for a crime they didn’t commit. A little over a decade later, Hannibal, Face, B.A. and Murdock had not only broken out from their fictional jail, but were the stars of their own TV show complete with trading cards. 1983 Topps A-Team trading cards are a simple relic of the time. They’re not particularly valuable but they remain a reminder of what made the show one of the most popular of the decade.

1983 Topps A-Team Pack

1983 Topps A-Team Checklist Details

The base set has 66 cards. Releasing less that a year after the series premiere, it’s based very loosely on the first season. But by then The A-Team already had a large following. It debuted immediately after the Washington Redskins beat the Miami Dolphins in Super Bowl XVII.

The cards themselves come with bright blue borders that are tough to miss. Images are a lot of studio shots as well as some stills from early episodes. Backs are colorful with headshots of all A-Team members including Amy. There’s a bit of text, which explains the front image but it’s not all that comprehensive like most modern trading card releases that are based on television shows.

Stickers

Every pack of 1983 Topps A-Team trading cards comes with one of 12 stickers. These are fairly plain with white backgrounds. Still, the stickers themselves are die-cut like a lot of the ones done by Topps at the time. A thick red border is done to mimic the shape of a file folder. Sticker backs go together to make a puzzle with a group shot.

Besides regular packs and boxes, cards are stickers were also packaged separately in massive vending cases. These have bulk lots of almost 10,000 cards or stickers (they were never mixed), intended for special trading card vending machines.

1983 Topps A-Team trading cards also have rack packs of 45 cards. These were packaged together into boxes of 24 packs.
