1983 Topps Jaws 3-D embraces the movie’s gimmick. And much like the movie, the gimmick is, perhaps, the most memorable thing about it.
1983 Topps Jaws 3-D Checklist Details
Cards pull double duty. On the one side, the resemble traditional trading cards. There’s action, images of actors, descriptive captions and shark-inspired design elements. To this end, it’s a solid set.
Flip them over and you get the 3-D. These are done in the form of red and blue illustrations. These play out more like a comic book. With the red and blue, you need classic 3-D glasses to make the effect work (at least as well as it can). 1983 Topps Jaws 3-D packs included a viewer in every pack.
With images on both sides, there’s little room to offer film summaries beyond photos and illustrations. The captions are a little longer than most sets but still read more like a headline than write-up.
Obviously, the biggest appeal with 1983 Topps Jaws 3-D trading cards is going to be with Jaws fans. Topps also did a set for Jaws 2 in 1978. These are the only two films in the franchise to get mainstream trading cards.
The character cards towards the front of the set are worth noting. They are some of the first cards from the likes of Dennis Quaid, Lea Thompson and Louis Gossett Jr.
Today, 1983 Topps Jaws 3-D trading cards remain affordable, particularly when you compare prices to other movie sets from around the same period.
