1996 Cornerstone Monty Python and the Holy Grail trading cards pull double duty. At its most basic, it’s a set that captures the film and some of its comedy. A product of its time, it also pokes fun at the tallboy trend that was all the rage at the time. How does it do this? By adopting the tallboy format.

1996 Cornerstone Monty Python and the Holy Grail Checklist Details

The base set recaps the classic British comedy over the course of 72 cards. The big thing here is that the cards themselves are big. Opting for similar dimensions used most notably by Topps for their Star Wars Widevision run through the original trilogy. Instead of “Widevision,” Cornerstone gets a little cheeky, going with the term “Very Wide Cards” and an icon that strikingly similar to Topps’ Widevision logo. The idea behind the larger size was to help cards look closer to what you’d see on the big screen.

Fronts are kept simple with a full-bleed image and the film’s word art in a corner. Backs have things like production info or quotes along with more imagery and a caption to go with the front of the card.

The 1996 Cornerstone Monty Python and the Holy Grail checklist has two types of inserts. First are six Knights cards that are done in foil and have 1:8 pack odds. In additional to those, there’s an extremely tough Holy Grail cards that’s 1:432 packs.

This is not an easy set to find today. In fact, most of its elements are tough, despite the fact that the checklist is kept small.
